BRINGING ON THE GLITZ…yes, the gems of BPW/OHIO are like a necklace strung with different stones, each one different in every way, yet coming full circle to achieve the mission of BPW/OHIO. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Past President Sharon McTigue on a successful year. Also, special thanks to Conference Chair Charisse Kellums and her committee on a wonderful conference.
We began this summer with leadership training in Cambridge with Region 4. What a wonderful meeting, jammed packed with great information and great leadership with Region President Kim Gress. Thanks to President-Elect Kathy Kellums for her presentations, and Barbara Kornuc, Issues Management Chair, who traveled to this meeting. Many chairs were present as part of Region 4, and their presentations set the tone for an interesting and very “radiant” year ahead.
As of this writing, we will be traveling to Region 5 for leadership training. President Martha Murphy has a weekend planned for her region at Lake Hope in McArthur. Later on in July the WEPA conference hosted by Pennsylvania will be an event to attend in Pittsburgh. Regions 2 and 3 will be hosting their leadership trainings in August. We will travel to Lebanon in September for Region 6.
These trainings set a tone for the year filled with new ideas and very creative goals. Please follow the instructions of Issues Management Chair Barb Kornuc and Membership Chair Andrea Patterson so that your local does not miss out on earning points for awards at next year’s conference. See if you can get a local business to sponsor an ID training as suggested by our expert ID Chair Tomma Bordenkircher.
Speaking of conference – WE MUST GET MORE MEMBERS TO ATTEND CONFERENCE – this is the opportunity we need to introduce members to BPW who have not had the full experience. Please think how your local can help its members to defray costs for conference, perhaps by having a fundraiser to pay for everyone’s registration. This year we have determined that our legislative platform will be held at the Leadership YC/ID Training in April instead of at the conference. This had been done in the past and we have changed it back to allow more time at conference for conference matters. Conference Chair Charisse Kellums and her committee are planning a dynamite conference in Strongsville in 2014, so get excited and think about your plans to attend.
The State Board Meeting will be held at the Sheraton Suites in Columbus on August 17th. The registration form is printed in this OBW, so get your reservation in as soon as possible. State Senator Lou Gentile will be our guest speaker for this meeting (he just happens to live in Steubenville – a gem of our own). You will enjoy meeting Lou and hearing what he has to say about what is happening with legislation in Ohio.
To my Executive Committee, the Board, and to the Membership of BPW/OHIO, I welcome you to join me this year in BRINGING ON THE GLITZ, sparkling wherever we travel to achieve the mission of BPW/OHIO. I thank you and feel blessed to have you in my life.
BPW/OHIO President Phyllis Riccadonna
